How we check

Animal Control UK compares what councils in England, Scotland and Wales say about their own pest control and stray dog services. Everything comes from the councils' own websites.

Where the information comes from

For each council we start from the page GOV.UK links to from its "Report a pest problem" and "Report a stray dog" services, then add the council's own pest control charges page where it has one. We read those pages and record what the council offers, what it charges, who pays less, and how to report a stray dog.

The rule we never break

Every price and every statement is copied word for word from the council's page, and we check by computer that those exact words appear on it. If a page doesn't state something clearly, we say it is unclear rather than guess. We never estimate a council's price.

What the prices mean

Prices are household prices as the council publishes them, usually for one course of treatment (often up to three visits). Commercial prices are not included. Many councils charge less, or nothing, to people on certain benefits; where a council says so, its page shows it.

How current it is

We checked all 368 councils, most recently on 6 October 2026, and recheck them every quarter. Councils change their charges, usually at the start of the financial year, so always confirm with the council before booking.

Corrections

If a council's information here is wrong or out of date, email editor@animalcontrol.co.uk with the council's page and we will check it against the source and correct it.
